Qué es la Lista de prohibidas y limitadas de Yu-Gi-Oh!, en qué se diferencian TCG y OCG y qué formatos se juegan: Avanzado, Tradicional, GOAT, Edison, Genesys, Speed Duel y los juegos digitales.What the Yu-Gi-Oh! Con más de 14.000 cartas, algunas son demasiado fuertes o hacen que las partidas sean aburridas. Para eso está la Lista de prohibidas y limitadas. Y si te apetece jugar de otra manera, hay varios formatos.
La Lista de prohibidas y limitadas
Konami la revisa varias veces al año. Cada carta de la lista tiene uno de estos estados:

La cuenta es entre el Deck, el Deck Extra y el Side Deck juntos. Olla de la Codicia, que roba 2 cartas sin coste, es el ejemplo clásico de carta prohibida.
TCG y OCG
El juego tiene dos versiones oficiales con las mismas reglas pero cartas y listas distintas:
- OCG (Official Card Game): Japón y Asia. Las cartas salen primero aquí.
- TCG (Trading Card Game): Europa, América y Oceanía, en inglés, español, francés, alemán, italiano y portugués.
Casi todas las cartas llegan de una a otra con unos meses de diferencia, pero no siempre en el mismo orden, y cada una tiene su propia Lista de prohibidas. Si juegas en España o Latinoamérica, la tuya es la TCG.
Formatos
Avanzado
El formato normal de los torneos oficiales: todas las cartas legales, con la Lista de prohibidas y limitadas vigente. Cuando alguien dice "jugar Yu-Gi-Oh!" sin más, se refiere a este.
Tradicional
Igual que el Avanzado, pero las cartas prohibidas pasan a estar limitadas a 1. Se juega poco.
GOAT
Un formato "retro" que usa las cartas y la lista de abril de 2005. Su nombre viene del inglés Greatest Of All Time ("el mejor de todos los tiempos"), porque mucha gente lo considera el mejor momento del juego. Es un juego más lento, con más batallas y decisiones en cada turno, y tiene una comunidad muy activa. Puedes ver qué cartas están permitidas eligiendo la lista GOAT en los filtros de la web.
Edison
Otro formato retro, basado en la lista de abril de 2010. Llega hasta los monstruos de Sincronía, así que tiene más combos que GOAT pero sigue siendo mucho más sencillo que el juego actual.
Genesys
Un formato oficial del TCG que empezó en septiembre de 2025. No usa Lista de prohibidas: cada carta tiene un valor en puntos (la mayoría, 0) y tu Deck no puede pasar de un máximo de puntos. Además, no se usan monstruos de Péndulo ni de Enlace, y el campo no tiene Zonas de Monstruo Extra ni de Péndulo.
Speed Duel
Una versión rápida para cartas físicas basada en el videojuego Duel Links: 4000 puntos de vida, Decks de 20 a 30 cartas, 3 zonas de monstruos y habilidades de personaje. Usa sus propias cartas.
Rush Duel
Otra versión del juego, con reglas más rápidas (robas hasta tener 5 cartas y puedes Invocar de Modo Normal varias veces por turno). Es la que se juega en los animes SEVENS y Go Rush!!. Se vende sobre todo en Japón y Asia y sus cartas no se mezclan con las normales.
Los juegos digitales
- Master Duel: el juego completo, con las reglas y casi todas las cartas del juego físico. Gratis en PC, consolas y móvil.
- Duel Links: juega Speed Duels con personajes del anime. Gratis en PC y móvil.
Son una forma estupenda de aprender sin gastar: el propio juego aplica las reglas y te enseña las Cadenas.
With more than 14,000 cards, some are too strong or make the game dull. That's what the Forbidden & Limited List is for. And if you fancy playing a different way, there are several formats.
The Forbidden & Limited List
Konami reviews it several times a year. Every card on the list has one of these statuses:

The count covers the Main, Extra and Side Deck together. Pot of Greed, which draws 2 cards for free, is the classic banned card.
TCG and OCG
The game has two official versions with the same rules but different cards and lists:
- OCG (Official Card Game): Japan and Asia. Cards are released here first.
- TCG (Trading Card Game): Europe, the Americas and Oceania, in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.
Almost every card makes it from one to the other a few months apart, but not always in the same order, and each has its own banlist. If you play in Europe or the Americas, yours is the TCG list.
Formats
Advanced
The standard format of official tournaments: every legal card, with the current Forbidden & Limited List. When people just say "playing Yu-Gi-Oh!", this is what they mean.
Traditional
Like Advanced, but Forbidden cards become Limited to 1 instead. Rarely played.
GOAT
A "retro" format using the cards and banlist from April 2005. The name stands for Greatest Of All Time, because many players see it as the game's best era. It's slower, with more battles and decisions every turn, and it has a very active community. Pick the GOAT list in this site's filters to see which cards are allowed.
Edison
Another retro format, based on the April 2010 list. It goes up to Synchro Monsters, so it has more combos than GOAT but is still much simpler than the modern game.
Genesys
An official TCG format that started in September 2025. It has no banlist: every card has a point value (most are 0) and your Deck can't go over a point cap. Also, Pendulum and Link Monsters aren't used, and the field has no Extra Monster Zones or Pendulum Zones.
Speed Duel
A fast physical version based on the Duel Links video game: 4000 Life Points, 20 to 30 card Decks, 3 monster zones and character Skills. It uses its own cards.
Rush Duel
A separate version of the game with faster rules (you draw until you hold 5 cards and can Normal Summon several times per turn). It's the one played in the SEVENS and Go Rush!! anime. It's sold mainly in Japan and Asia and its cards don't mix with regular ones.
The digital games
- Master Duel: the full game, with the rules and nearly all the cards of the physical game. Free on PC, consoles and mobile.
- Duel Links: Speed Duels with anime characters. Free on PC and mobile.
They're a great way to learn without spending money: the game enforces the rules for you and teaches you Chains.
